At the end of 2018, my friend Iqif, who plays drums for the band Stereocase, told me that he wanted to release a solo project. He already had several songs in his repertoire and he asked me to be one of his lyricists.
We met up over sushi and he told me his story - this song and the story was a very personal one to him. I let it simmer in my mind for a few days and finally started to write. I am no stranger to journaling my own thoughts and feelings - but telling someone else's story was a whole different thing!
But it turned out well - I felt like I managed to translate his emotions and energy into a curated set of words, and he loved it as well. It tells a story of a transformation. It was my first time writing lyrics that was used for an actual song and it felt fucking amazing!
Have a listen to his groovy, kickass first ever single as a solo artist (boy's got talent and zazz!), and sing along with these lyrics!
Tonight I tasted defeat again
Bitter pain prickling into my brain
When each day is judgement day
You’d learn to have just a little to say
I’m stripped way down into my bones
I’m so scared, I’m so alone
No escape,
These voices echo louder than I can stand
All the things that I’ve come to dread
Were just noises inside my head
I’ve come back from the dead
And I’ve got long roads to tread
Can you hear the thunder’s calling my name
CALLING MY NAME!
Here it comes
The storm that I’ve been waiting
Gotta go and dance
with the crashin’ lightning
I’m in a trance!
Kicking, screaming
“COME, COME,
COME BURN ME DOWN!”
Falling prey to my own demons putting curse on my existence
Lost all my senses and my voice so I'm gonna spit-
SPIT OUT THAT SICK TASTE OUTTA MY MOUTH
The damned poison of the season
All the things that I’ve come to dread
Were just noises inside my head
I’ve come back from the dead
And I’ve got long roads to tread
Can't you hear,
Oh you know oh you know I'm game
YOU KNOW I'M GAME!
Here it comes
The storm that I’ve been waiting
Gotta go and dance
with the crashin’ lightning
I’m in a trance!
Kicking, screaming
“COME, COME,
COME BURN ME DOWN”
Burn! Me! Down.
